Golf Art - Watercolor Paintings
Golf, like painting, is one of my life passions. If I can't play it is almost as much fun to paint a golf subject. I try to capture the challenge and feel of this great sport just as if I were playing. There are some interesting parallels between watercolor and golf. Good paintings appear to be effortless and free flowing, just like a good golf swing. Both are challenging and failure must be expected and overcome with positive thinking. A forced mechanical approach usually doesn't work. My goal is to capture the essence of a subject without detail or clutter. This way, I can emphasize what I like best about the subject, be it color, shape or mood.
Recreational subjects abound in Idaho, a place where people are active. Snow skiing, white water rafting, flyfishing and hiking are all popular activities and make great subjects for my watercolors. These subjects are an opportunity to combine a landscape with a spark of human interest. If a watercolor encourages one to enter a painting and experience the activity depicted, then it is at least a partial success. What remains is the challenge of capturing the essence of the activity in a successful composition that compliments, rather than competes with, the primary subject.
